I kicked off summer with a pastry making class at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel with Chef Benoit Laboureux and it was a lot of fun! Being a frustrated pastry chef, I jumped at the opportunity to get all hands on in making tasty desserts that I can easily make at home.
Growing up, my mom would let me and my sister help her make butter cookies, chiffon cake, leche flan and chocolate cupcakes from scratch. I remember how we'd clear our 8-seater dining table of its center decors and use the whole space as our kitchen counter. I remember being covered in flour because I was mixing the dry ingredients too quickly. I also remember using the "cookie gun" with different cookie molds to make another batch of butter cookies. Baking was one weekend activity I would always look forward to doing because aside from the fact that it's fun, it is also very rewarding. What better way to enjoy the fruits of your labor than by eating all of it, right?
We were taught how to make Tiramisu and Chocolate Coffee Almond Truffles that had me squirming in my seat with delight because I have 2 new recipes that I can try at home with Vania. Having a 3-year-old who is very interested in baking, learning new things to teach/show her excites me and this experience was definitely one of them!
I have never tried making Tiramisu at home because it sounds so complicated and Truffles were something I never really thought of adding to my list of must-try recipes. But having someone with years of experience and expertise share with you tips (and his best recipes, too!) on how to whip up a fancy dessert, everything was a breeze!
